Ear Acupuncture: Auricular Therapy at  D'Vida Injury Clinic & Wellness Center

Auricular therapy integrates Western and Chinese theories of health as balance and equilibrium. The use of acupuncture ear seeds in the ear is based on the rich and multiple connections it has to the central nervous system. The shape of the body is projected onto the ear and every point of the body corresponds to a point on the ear. Points in the ear are activated by ear seeds or ear tacks being placed on the points.

Auricular therapy is used with great results in addiction treatment, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and other conditions.

How is Auricular Therapy used as a Treatment?

Auricular therapy may be used as a primary mode of treatment or in conjunction with other treatments. It is generally incorporated into a regular acupuncture treatment. In addition to using acupuncture points on the rest of the body, the acupuncturist may feel you would benefit from activating points in the ear.

Auricular therapy is also good for a patient that is new to acupuncture, nervous, or uncomfortable with needles.

What are Ear seeds and Ear Tacks?

Ear Seeds and ear tacks are used to stimulate the points longer. Ear seeds are small seeds from the Vaccaria plant. These seeds are held in place on the ear with a small piece of adhesive tape. These seeds can stay in the ear for 1 day up to 2 weeks.

Ear tacks are very small needles with an adhesive backing. Ear tacks are inserted into the ear and left in the ear for a few days or up to one week. At D’Vida Injury Clinic & Wellness Center, our acupuncturists use primarily ear seeds.
