Why would I want Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is well known for treating a wide variety of symptoms and ailments.  Some include:

  • Digestive disorders: gastritis and hyperacidity, spastic colon, constipation, diarrhea.
  • Respiratory disorders: sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, recurrent chest infections.
  • Neurological and muscular disorders: headaches, facial tics, neck pain, rib neuritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, various forms of tendinitis, low back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis.
  • Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive problems.
  • Physical problems related to stress and emotional conditions.

It is a safe and effective treatment. Patients don’t have to deal with the toxic side effects associated with pharmaceutical medications when they choose acupuncture. Patients that do not want to take pain medications or do not respond to them have found acupuncture to be very beneficial.

How does it Work?

A patient’s signs and symptoms determine which acupuncture points to use. Symptoms that are described to the acupuncturist during a consultation determine what areas of the body have weak or blocked qi, or living energy. These areas are stimulated to allow for the qi to flow through the body properly.

In Western medicine, this is described as stimulating the nervous system into releasing chemicals throughout different parts of the body.  These chemicals trigger the release of hormones that promote self regulating of the different body systems.

How Long does it take to Work?

The time it takes to feel the effects varies, but it usually takes at least 24 hours after a session. For acute, or minor issues, a few sessions will be enough . For more complicated or severe conditions or injuries, it can take up to a few months of regular sessions to reach full improvement.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine technique that promotes your body’s natural healing process. It is best known by the placement of thin, sterile needles in acupuncture points. If needles are used, they are always single use, sterile needles.  There are many types of treatments that do not use needles, however.
